ABOUT US
Caribisles Sports C1ub,
Inc (CSC) is a non-profit organization that was founded in October 1993.
Although our group had been together five years prior, we acquired
our new name in 1993. Shortly thereafter, we expanded our interest
beyond Netball. Today, the primary aims and objectives of CSC are to
promote Arts & Culture, and to provide an atmosphere where youths can
develop and learn the importance of team work.
Our pursuit of cultural
enrichment has brought about the production of various events such as the
Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, folk dance ensembles and talent shows.
The Junior Calypso Monarch Competition has “bridged the gap” for many
youths during their acculturation process. We strive to preserve the rich
traditions of the Caribbean by focusing on our youth. This annual
event is the first of its kind in the United States to host live
performances of the reigning Junior Calypso Monarch of Trinidad & Tobago.
Netball
is a game of throwing and catching. Traditionally it is played throughout
the British Commonwealth and in the Caribbean islands. It has now grown in
popularity in Miami and around the United States. This fast paced game is
similar to basketball with a shooting pole on both ends of the court,
however there is no "dribbling" of the ball. In prior years, CSC has
hosted netball tournaments where teams from Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands,
the Caribbean as well as domestic U.S. were well represented . As is
a tradition with CSC, youths were incorporated into netball events with
their own "Under 21" round-robin competitions.
CSC has really grown over
the years, so many may refer to our organization as "Massive
Caribisles"...a name we wear proudly. Throughout the year, we organize
fundraising events to aid us in achieving our goals. As with any club,
however, there are always areas for growth and improvement. As such, we
solicit support from local businesses.
The organization colors are orange, purple and white. Our name,
CARIBISLES coincides with the fact that our members are from various
Caribbean islands as well as the United States. We encourage higher
education for all our members and stress the importance of togetherness as
reflected in our motto, "United to Achieve the Ultimate”.
